Joseph Smith lived in the United States, which was perhaps the only country to enjoy religious freedom at the time. It was at a time of great religious excitement in the eastern United States. His family members were deeply religious and constantly sought for truth. But many ministers claimed to have the true gospel. Joseph desired “to know which of all the sects was right,” (Joseph Smith—History 1:18). The Bible taught there was “one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Ephesians 4:5). Joseph attended different churches, but he remained confused about which church he should join. He later wrote:
“So great were the confusions and strife among the different denominations, that it was impossible for a person young as I was … to come to any certain conclusion who was right and who was wrong. … In the midst of this war of words and tumult of opinions, I often said to myself: What is to be done? Who of all these parties are right; or, are they all wrong together? If any one of them be right, which is it, and how shall I know it?” (Joseph Smith—History 1:8, 10).
As Joseph sought truth among the different faiths, he turned to the Bible for guidance. He read, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). Because of this passage, Joseph decided to ask God what he should do. In the spring of 1820 he went to a nearby grove of trees and knelt in prayer. He described his experience:
“I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. … When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” (Joseph Smith—History 1:16–17).
Preach my Gospel Lesson 1
I KNOW Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ because I prayed about it. There is a lot of confusion in the world today and at times I have felt confused just like this young boy. I love how the Bible lead Joseph to pray to truly ask God which church he should join! Its really simple I mean think about what I am going to say with real intent… I say this because I have studied and have been in everyone one of these scenarios or know people that have… And please do not take this personally really think about it…
Why do so many religions hate and trash talk the Mormons or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints more than any other religion?
No one has ever proven this Religion wrong because they do not have proof and we are still growing in number.
People have told me they would believe and be baptized in the true church if we show them the gold plates but really would you really be baptized? seeing isn’t believing believing is seeing. I have never seen a million dollars but because I didn’t see it doesn’t mean its not there. If A young boy Saw God The Father and Jesus Christ and I was not present doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
People who have left the church leave because they can not keep certain commandments or its just to hard to live. People get offended but that’s not the real reason they leave they want to blame it on someone and use that as an excuse.
If you believed and have faith in your religion and you know its true you would be a faithful saint no matter how people treat you because you go to church for God and yourself and no one else.
How does a young boy with a third grade education make up a book with real life stories in it and uses a language he has never heard?
Tell me why being a preacher is a job and you get paid for doing the service of God? Also when preachers get certified or go to school to become a preacher they apply for whatever faith will hire them.
Why do some religions treat the Bible like a buffet living only the doctrine they want to live. You cant pick and choose what the Bible states you either live it all or you dont.
If God is the same yesterday, today, and forever and it was important to have a prophet in the old days why wouldn’t there be a prophet today? There is a Prophet today named Thomas S. Monson (By their fruits ye shall know them)
If you are truly christian and follow after the example of Jesus Christ you would love and serve others and not tear anyone down and respect what others believe.
The Bible talks about tithing, temples, baptism, baptism for the dead, prophets, priesthood, apostles, service, love, restoration of the gospel, miracles, and most of all JESUS CHRIST and we have the Gospel in its entirety the same church that Jesus established when He was on earth is here now in the fullness.
The truth is what causes people to change and when we learn truth we live it or feel guilty about it. Lets be honest a lot of people are afraid of change they are happy and comfortable with their lives and settle for whatever. God is not a comfortable God if he was we would not fear Him or do what he asks.
I know God doesn’t change if so He would cease to be God. Just because the world changes and the values change doesn’t make it ok to follow the worlds way of living. You can not follow God and follow the world at the same time you do have a choice to make which side your on. Which reminds me of the scripture You can not serve two masters (luke 16:13)
I am no perfect saint no one is except Christ and I will follow him and keep His commandments because I love him and I will see him again! There is a plan for you God will tell you Truth because He is Truth and He needs you on his side when He comes again! I plead with you please study if you are confused and looking for truth. Dont trust the arm of flesh dont take my word for it. Ask and ye shall receive God will tell you truth do not be afraid to live it!
